ESCAPE AND REFUGE
Escape and Refuge is a sound and visual project by Cecilie Beck. It is an 87 pages collage book (30cm X 30cm) that consists of drawings of words and sentences, photos of CeciSodo, a USB stick with 25 tracks, texts for these songs and recipes on how the songs were performed during the recordings. There are 50 physical pieces of the book.
Different genres and instruments are used in the songs. They are all built on harmonies and the vocal sings about solitude amongst people in the city, loneliness in couple-ness, initiative and passiveness, rootlessness and a search for calmness, love and emptiness, intimacy
and distance. It analyzes social interactions in both public and private
space.The drawings are fragments from the texts. They were made with markers, pens and water color which have been stroked on paper found in my music book, at a military excess inventory and on abandoned factories.The photos are created by photographer Christian Göran.The album was made in October 2010 and this exhibition was an installation with the drawings, 2 music videos and 25 tracks from the album. Everything is presented in the book via an analogue Nikkormatcamera. The album was made possible with help from Jan Franzén, Adrian Stoeger, Quim Fransen and Christian Göran.
